WAGHENAER, L. J. De Zee Custe, met de Englande van Bretaignen, tuschenn Blavet en Picqueliers (Sud Bretagne). Leiden, 1584/1585. Black and white. Very nice copy, beautiful printing. 329 x 510 mm. Detailed description of the Breton coast from Vannes to St. Hilaire-de-Riez (from Blavet then Port-Louis to Picquelier (Noirmoutier)), also shows Belle-Île. Nautical map dated 1583, decorated with a Renaissance title cartouche, a compass rose, several ships and sea monsters. Rare map from the first Dutch edition of the Atlas "Spieghel der Zeevaerdt" published in Leiden in 1584/1585 and engraved by Johannes van Deutecom. Waghenaer used his personal experience as a pilot along the European coasts to compile the Spiegel der Zeevaerdt, the first edition of which was published in Dutch in Leiden in 1584/85 by the firm Plantin. § Copy reproduced in C.
