JAILLOT, A.H. La Bretagne Divisée en ses neuf Eveschés. Amst - Lot 88
JAILLOT, A.H. La Bretagne Divisée en ses neuf Eveschés. Amsterdam, with R. and J. Ottens, 1693-1696. Beautiful contemporary collar. Beautiful copy in contemporary cloris. 463 x 650 mm. Third state. Title at the top outside the frame: "NOVA ET ACCURATA BRITANNIAE TABULA AD USUM SERENISSIMI BURGUNDIAE DUCIS >> First state : "à Paris 1693 >> Second state: "in Paris 1696 >>". Third state: "in Amsterdam at R. and J. Ottens". No date is indicated but it is probably also 1696. Comparisons with Jaillot's map of 1690: A cartouche at upper left. No address, no privilege or date. Different garland. Reduced dimensions, abbreviated text. An entirely new cartouche at the bottom left. Dedication, aroirie. The monsters blow to the left. The map is slightly reduced. Ouessant is out of the frame like the bishopric of Nantes. Hoat (Houat) and Hedic (Hoedic) are in their place. Wind rose west of Belle-Isle. Grid used to locate place names. § Copy reproduced in C. Gaudillat, Old maps of Brittany 1582-1800, Pl. N° 27.
