Map taken from the 1715 Atlas de Navigation et du Commerce, republished in 1739 and 1745 by Reinier and Josua Ottens, then in 1802 by the widow G. Hulst Van Keulen. Map of western France and northwestern Spain. D wo cartouches. In the northwest, a carton: the port of Lorient from 174 With Blauet or Port-Louis (added). In 1616, the marshal of Brissac was charged to build a fortress and a new city in Blavet and to establish a commercial port there. From then on, this place was called Port-Louis, after of King Louis XIII. The foundation of Lorient dates back to 1616 but the confirmation of the name an edict of 1738.
