ANONYMOUS. Map of Brittany drawn up on the observations of t - Lot 139
ANONYMOUS. Map of Brittany drawn up on the observations of the Royal Academy of Sciences. Ca. 1760. period col. Handwritten map in two joined sheets, canvas and folded, small wormhole below the island of Groix. Pen, ink and watercolour (green, yellow, pink). 675 x 1000 mm.
Large handwritten map in ink and watercolour. Detailed map showing bishoprics, roads, hydrography, relief. Two scales from right to left, located at the bottom left, of 20 Breton leagues of 2400 toises and 3000 toises. Precision under the scales: "western longitude of the meridian of Paris". Toponymy is very abundant in some regions and even off the map in the Lower Normandy, Maine and Anjou parts. The mention of most of the main parishes as well as many chapels implies a religious origin. There is another handwritten map by the same author, not covered with canvas, relating to the bishopric of Quimper or County of Cornwall with a single scale of 20 leagues of Brittany at 2400 toises. These two maps are entirely squared.
