MARQUIS DE BRIESERRANT. Plan of the port and roadstead of Pornic and of the communication channel of the said Pornic with Nantes according to the project given to the government by Monsieur le marquis de Brieserrant, lord of the said Pornic. Ca. 1789. Black and white. On strong paper, traces of folds. Nice copy. A few tracings in period colours. 530 x 885 mm.
Rare and large engraved plan showing the port of Pornic and the project of a communication canal between Pornic and Nantes according to the project of the Marquis de Brieserrant lord of Pornic. Title on the top right in cardboard including a legend with indications of colors and observations. Bottom left in cardboard: "particular plan of the port". Two maritime routes represented in blue and in red by 2 ships. The Marquis of Brie-Serrant presented in 1786 to the States of Brittany a project of canal between Nantes and Pornic. It was not a new idea to reactivate the Bay of Bourgneuf by bringing ships from the High Seas to Nantes, finding a solution to the shallowness of the Loire estuary which prevented ships from the High Seas from sailing up. This project will not see the light of day.
