The sculptor trained successively at the School of Fine Arts in Marseille, Toulouse and Paris with François Jouffroy and Ernest-Eugène Hiolle. First recognized for his portraits, he made his debut at the Salon of 1878 during which the State acquired one of his works. He received numerous official commissions, and was awarded a travel grant for his figure Youth in 1883 and the Grand Prix at the 1889 Universal Exhibition for The Return of the Hunt.
