A pupil of David d'Angers, Jean-Jules Allasseur won a second medal for his plaster group The Discovery of Moses at the 1853 Salon (preserved at Château de Nemours) and a first medal for the marble version at the 1859 Salon. He exhibited a marble reduction at the 1875 Salon. During his career, he received numerous public commissions under the Second Empire, including sculptures for the Louvre Palace and Paris City Hall.
Good overall condition. Dirt and grime, accident and missing right thumb on Moses' hand.
