Maurice Charpentier-Mio (1881-1976) - Lot 192
Maurice Charpentier-Mio (1881-1976) Sketch of danced gestures Bronze bas-relief with brown patina Bears the artist's monogram and signed "Maurice Charpentier" lower right Titled "CROQUIS DE GESTES / DANSÉS" upper left Located and dated "CHATELET / 1910" top right H. 14 x W. 27 cm, in frame H. 24.5 x W. 37.7 cm Maurice Charpentier-Mio's discovery of the Ballets Russes was a revelation. It would become one of his greatest sources of inspiration. In an article published in Le Petit Journal on October 19, 1932, the sculptor is described as follows: "Regulars of the Ballets Russes and the Opéra often see a gentleman with the figure of a young officer - as he was - taking hasty notes on the bangs of the program. He produced sketches of danced gestures, described as "pieces of rare originality, impressions taken on the spot and translated with a real sense of the art of movement and truth." (Léopold Honoré, Le Journal des arts, January 14, 1914).
