Paul Silvestre (1884-1976) Venus Consoling Love Bronze with brown-green patina Signed "Silvestre" on the terrace Bears the circular insert and the founder's mark "Susse Fres Edts Paris". Stamped "BRONZE" and marked "cire perdue". H. 22 cm, terrace. W. 30.9 x D. 12.2 cm Missing patina on the terrace next to Venus' right foot. Provenance: Private collection, Paris; By descent A student of Mercié and Carlès at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Paul Silvestre exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1921. His sculptural work is strongly influenced by the "return to order" movement that developed between the wars, reinterpreting a classical ideal.
