Born into an Italian family, Charles Bigonet entered the studio of Ernest Barrias and befriended Fernand David and Henri Bouchard. He participated in the Salon de la Société des artistes français, the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries. He wins the Algerian government prize which entitles him to a two-year scholarship at the Villa Abd-el-Tif. He takes on various public commissions.
