Presenting a panel of Design, furniture, objets d'art, and editions from 1964 to the present day, this upcoming sale, with a large number of iconic pieces (Marc Held, René Gabriel, Roger Tallon, Jean Coulot, Dorothée Maurer, Marc Berthier, Prisunic editions or Le Creuset) embodies NOUVELLE ETUDE's desire to modernize the auction sector. NOUVELLE ETUDE, by presenting collections of Design and Contemporary Art, is attracting a new public, not initiated to auctions but sensitive to the Design and Decorative Arts of recent decades.

"Since Pompidou, the French, having entered the modern era, have consciously started to buy design, but this denomination is based on very subjective criteria. From Prisunic to Missoni, from Le Creuset casseroles to paintings by Jean Coulot, Guy de Rougemont, Bernard Buffet, Plexus, Pierre Paulin, René Gabriel, or Marc Held, this eclectic collection of the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century appears like a joyful and playful self-portrait. That of an aesthetic collector as hedonistic as he was obstinate, who acquired piece by piece at the rate of one object per day for twenty years. His ambition: to proclaim the abolition of a form of gender hierarchy in favor of the pleasure of a well-made and well-thought-out object.

A well-designed utilitarian object, wearing colors or using innovative materials, is not less attractive than a painting. On the contrary, the cohabitation of the two gives a new coloring to the interiors, a

beauty. "Beautiful as a chance meeting on a dissection table of a sewing machine and an umbrella" to quote the famous phrase of the surrealist Comte de Lautréamont. The way to make these objects that populate the popular landscape again desirable, flirting with the "pop culture".

As such, many of these pieces already fill the permanent collections of the largest national museums of decorative arts and recently it is the museum of Saint Etienne, on the occasion of the exhibition "Déjà vu, design in our daily life" which paid tribute to these utilitarian pieces become mythical.

This fall, it is the turn of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris to celebrate the 1980s through a major exhibition presented from October 13, 2022 to April 16, 2023, an additional opportunity to delve into the history of objects from this frenetic era, when a new generation of designers (design, fashion, advertising) flourished by shaking up established codes.

A sale placed under the sign of lightness and joy, that of rubbing shoulders with key objects - which have gradually become museum pieces - providing immediate pleasure and tracing the history of our lifestyles and domestic uses. Nostalgic? No, pop!
